Monthly Development Update October 2024

October has been an incredible month as we make massive strides in development across all facets of the project. Highlighted by the reveal of our intro mission gameplay during our most recent Warped Talk Q&A. This milestone not only showcased our progress but also engaged our community in an exciting way.
As we look ahead, the momentum we’ve built this month sets the stage for an exciting future. Dive in with us to explore the developments that are shaping the Warped Universe!
GAME DEVELOPMENT
- Combat log now shows a breakdown of damage types
- Turn-based stealth system now supports groups
- Hit / kill reporting in turn-based is now done via actions
- Updated weapons to have variable range and arc. No longer hard-coded
- Added camera shake to cloud transition in sequences
- Player is now free to move during dialog
- Adjusted turn-based mode to reset each time you enter combat mode
- Added procedural content generation test maps and blueprints
- Concept art
- Game art
- Determined what is PCG and what is static
- Tested lighting
- New test concept level
- Improved character controls
- Gravity skill — singularity pulse effect enhanced
- New ground decal material
- AI follow / cover behavior updated
- AI escorting
- AI aggro triggers
- Made ground decals for rubble, cracks and potholes
- Wind movement component added
- Added bomb mesh for singularity pulse and adjusted the color
- Damageable actors can now be dynamic obstacles
- Damaged debris pieces now dissolve
- Adjusted projectile direction for ships
- Real-time space targeting ‘T’ now selects closest to cursor, mouse wheel still goes through targets
- New ship maneuver assets
- Increased initial ship weapon range and arc in turn-based space
- Added angular velocity to ship explosion pieces, the chunks spin now
- Turn-based space shows enemy range during maneuvers
- Work on networking replication on Nexus Station
GAME ART
- Ongoing work for map visuals
- Holographic objects
- More glass, tether meshes, spark effects, rubble, ceiling pieces
- Added point lights, more cover, local fog, big ship on left of tunnel for exit transition
- New colors for asteroid destruction animations
- Added new debris destruction effects
- Added more destruction effects to big ship explosion
- Added new Void infested ship crashing in an intro sequence
- New toolbar / action icons
- Updated UI art for health bar with rollover colors
- Made the dice look a lot better with new textures, materials and lighting
- New wormhole transition effects
- Items and abilities are now colored to match light (orange) or gravity (blue)
- Edits to planet explosion scene and sequence, more zoomed in to start and made more room for an audio explosion before VO starts again
- Improved animation and effects of turn-based space outro sequence
- Commenced player login area in Nexus Station
- Created initial Nexus Station assets
- Greybox Nexus Station and assets
GAME AUDIO
- New VO recordings. Cues for Oracle and wormhole sequence updated
- Real-time ground sequence VO and new SFX / music
- Luminary and Foundationalist dialog & VO updated
- Added water sounds throughout map
- Void sound attenuation updates
- Added tunnel reverb
- Updated planet exploding audio and SFX
- Ship warp speed audio effects
- Updated singularity pulse and skill sounds
- Added doppler effects during flyby in real-time space
Web 3
- Building out web3 frontend architecture proof of concept
- Authentication / authorization with Beamable via deployed microservices
- Creation of various Beamable microservices to interact on-chain such as query balance, sign messages, generate nonce
- High-level figma design to capture all planned features, including cosmetics, bundles, season passes, voting, game rewards and other unannounced features
- Documents created to capture features in greater detail
- Support from [REDACTED] chain initiated and met with their lead developer to plan support moving forward
